Dental Rescue Program
Since 2010, Smile Solutions has partnered with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) to deliver dental care to asylum seekers at no cost. Dr Peter Henderson has led the volunteer sessions for over 15 years, and the programme covers everything patients actually need, including emergency treatment, restorations, and dentures.
One story that puts this into perspective: Ismail Hussein waited nine years in detention before receiving care through the Dental Rescue Program. That's the gap this programme exists to close. Dental health affects overall wellbeing in ways that are hard to separate out, and for people who've had no access to care, the difference can be significant.
Operation Tooth Fairy
Smile Solutions created Operation Tooth Fairy to get dental professionals into primary schools across Melbourne before problems start. The numbers behind it are worth knowing:
