Why same day is not what you think

When most people hear "same day veneers," they picture a CAD/CAM system milling a restoration from a porcelain block in around 20 minutes. CAD/CAM milling works from a single-shade block. The result is functional and genuinely aesthetic, but it is machine-made.

Same Day Porcelain Veneers are handcrafted. Each veneer is individually built up, layered, tinted, and glazed by master ceramist Greg Karabasis and his team in our on-site Smile Lab. Greg controls the translucency, the colour gradient from cervical to incisal edge, the surface texture, and the individual characterisation that makes each veneer unique to you. This is artisan work — the same process used for conventional veneers that typically take weeks — compressed into a single day because your ceramist works on site, exclusively for you.

How the process works

The reason your Same Day Porcelain Veneers can be completed in one day is not because the work is rushed. It is because the Smile Lab operates exclusively for Smile Solutions patients, and your ceramist dedicates the entire day to your case alone.

Before your prep day:

• Digital smile design completed with your cosmetic dentist and ceramist
• Mock-up approved on your natural teeth (see our guide to the mock-up process)
• Gum lift completed and healed, if required
• Shade selection, shape, and number of veneers all confirmed to your satisfaction

On the day:

• Morning — Your cosmetic dentist prepares your teeth, guided by the mock-up template to keep enamel removal minimal. Digital scans are taken immediately and sent directly to the Smile Lab on the same floor.
• Throughout the day — Greg Karabasis and the Smile Lab team handcraft each of your veneers individually. They layer porcelain, build translucency, hand-tint to match your approved shade, and glaze to achieve a natural surface texture. Greg may visit you during fabrication to verify shade and characterisation in natural light — a level of attention that simply is not possible with an external laboratory.
• Late afternoon/evening — Your completed veneers are tried in, adjusted if needed, and permanently bonded. You leave with your final smile — not temporaries, not a "close enough" result, but your finished, handcrafted veneers, the same day.

Proximity. Your ceramist works in the same building as your treating dentist, here at the Manchester Unity Building on Collins Street in Melbourne. The lab is not across town — it is on the same floor. If a shade adjustment is needed mid-fabrication, Greg walks directly to you. If your dentist wants to discuss a margin detail, they walk to the lab. This real-time, in-person collaboration is what removes the weeks of back-and-forth that conventional veneer fabrication requires, and it is what makes the result so consistently good.
