Smile Solutions Collins Street Imaging – In-House Dental Radiography, Melbourne CBD

At most dental practices, needing detailed radiographic imaging means a referral somewhere else entirely — often across town. You book a separate appointment, travel to a different location, then wait for results to be sent back to your dentist. It adds time, inconvenience, and an unnecessary gap in your care.

At Smile Solutions, that doesn't happen.

Collins Street Imaging - Level 9

On Level 9 of the Manchester Unity Building, 220 Collins Street, Melbourne CBD, Collins Street Imaging is the dedicated in-house radiography department of Smile Solutions. It operates as a fully integrated part of the practice, available across all clinical departments and all 5 floors — built into your care from the start.

Full-Spectrum Radiographic Capabilities

Collins Street Imaging offers a comprehensive range of dental radiographic services, all under one roof.

Digital OPG (Orthopantomogram). A panoramic X-ray capturing your full dentition, jaw, sinuses and temporomandibular joints in a single image. This is the standard baseline for implant planning, orthodontic assessment, wisdom tooth evaluation, and general screening — giving your clinician a complete picture from the outset.

Lateral Cephalometric X-ray. A precise side-profile radiograph of the skull, used primarily for orthodontic treatment planning and assessment of skeletal jaw relationships. It's an essential component of any comprehensive orthodontic workup, helping your specialist understand the full picture of your facial structure.

CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography). Three-dimensional volumetric imaging of your jaws, teeth, bone, nerve pathways and supporting structures. CBCT is central to precise implant placement planning, nerve and sinus anatomy assessment, endodontic evaluation, surgical planning, and complex multi-specialist cases. It delivers clinical detail that conventional two-dimensional X-rays simply can't match — and that detail matters when it comes to your treatment plan.

Digital Intraoral X-rays. High-resolution digital bitewing and periapical radiographs taken directly in the dental surgery, complementing OPG imaging with detailed views of individual teeth and surrounding bone. These targeted images give your clinician the close-up clarity needed to support evidence-based care at every stage.

A Radiographer Available During All Clinical Hours

Collins Street Imaging is staffed by experienced, qualified radiographers throughout all clinical hours. There's no need to book separately or wait days for results. When your clinician requires an OPG or CBCT, it happens during the same visit — with results available immediately for clinical review. Your care keeps moving forward without unnecessary delays.

Specialist Reporting — Partnered with MFI Radiology

For complex cases requiring specialist radiological interpretation, Collins Street Imaging works with MFI Radiology, providing specialist head and neck radiologist reporting. When a CBCT reveals an incidental finding, or when your case requires a formal radiological opinion, that reporting comes from qualified medical radiologists with head and neck subspecialty expertise.

This level of radiological oversight isn't available at ordinary dental practices.

Consistent Imaging Across All Departments

Because imaging is handled in-house, every department at Smile Solutions — orthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, general and cosmetic dentistry — draws from the same imaging systems and accesses the same image library. There's no fragmentation between your imaging records and your clinical records. Everything stays connected.

Consider beginning with an orthodontic assessment on Level 12, progressing to implant surgery with our specialist team, then receiving cosmetic veneers — every imaging record and clinical note consolidated within one integrated system. That's what genuinely comprehensive dental care looks like in practice.

Part of the Vertically Integrated Smile Solutions Model

Collins Street Imaging isn't a standalone service. It's a core part of the vertically integrated model at Smile Solutions, and what makes your care genuinely end-to-end.

When the Smile Lab produces a surgical guide using digital data from coDiagnostix, Exocad DentalCAD, and your CBCT, that guide is accurate because the imaging behind it was taken in-house, by the same team, to consistent standards. Your outcomes benefit directly from that precision.

Levels 1 and 10 house general and cosmetic dentistry. Level 8 houses the Collins Street Specialist Centre — prosthodontics, endodontics, and paediatric dentistry. Level 9 is Collins Street Imaging. Levels 12 and the Tower house orthodontics, periodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. Every department connects through a single integrated clinical record — and that record begins with imaging.

Medicare Bulk Billing for Eligible Patients

For certain patient groups, imaging at Collins Street Imaging can be bulk-billed through Medicare, meaning no out-of-pocket cost if you're eligible. This includes orthodontic patients, oral and maxillofacial surgery patients, and some external referrals. Your treating clinician will confirm whether your imaging qualifies, so you always know what to expect.

How to Access Collins Street Imaging

Collins Street Imaging is available to all Smile Solutions patients. Your imaging is arranged through your treating clinician as part of your care pathway — there's nothing extra for you to organise.
