Assessment After Overseas Dental Work: Implants, Crowns and Veneers
Smile Solutions assesses implants, crowns, veneers and dentures placed overseas, gives independent second opinions and plans corrective treatment.
In short: If you have concerns about implants, crowns, veneers or dentures placed overseas, Smile Solutions in Melbourne can assess the work with a detailed examination and imaging where needed. You receive an independent second opinion, a plan for corrective treatment if it is needed, and, on request, an independent clinical report. Call 13 13 96 to book an assessment.
Why do people ask for an assessment after overseas treatment?
People come to us with pain, restorations that have loosened or broken, inflamed gums around implants, a bite that feels wrong, or simply uncertainty about what was placed. Our role is to describe what is present and explain your options in a factual way.
What does the assessment involve?
A clinician carries out a detailed examination and takes imaging where needed, including 3D imaging at Collins Street Imaging on Level 9 of the Manchester Unity Building. Bring any paperwork you hold, such as treatment notes, implant cards, x-rays and invoices. If you have none, imaging helps establish what is in your mouth.
What problems can be assessed?
We assess failed implants, poorly fitting crowns, veneers or dentures, and dental work that has not lasted. This applies to treatment carried out in Australia or overseas.
What happens after the assessment?
You receive an independent second opinion on the condition of the work. Where treatment is needed, we plan corrective treatment with you; where it is not, we explain why. Complex cases can involve prosthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons and periodontists from the Collins Street Specialist Centre on Level 8. We can also prepare an independent clinical report if you need one.
Can I be assessed if I live interstate or overseas?
Yes. The assessment takes place in person in Melbourne. Our interstate planning guide and international patients page explain how to prepare. Call +61 3 9650 4920 from outside Australia.
Does an assessment commit me to treatment?
No. The assessment gives you information and, where needed, a plan. Whether to go ahead is your decision.
Results, recovery times and risks vary for each individual.
