# Interstate and International Patients: Full-Mouth Implants in Melbourne

**In short:** Smile Solutions, on Level 1 of Melbourne's Manchester Unity Building, plans and provides dental implant and full-mouth rehabilitation treatment for people who live interstate, in regional areas or overseas. Each stage, from the first assessment to the final fixed bridge, takes place in Melbourne, and we plan the timing of your visits with you at consultation.

## Who is this guide for?

This guide is for adults who live outside Melbourne and are thinking about All-on-4, several implants or a full-mouth rehabilitation. It applies to patients from regional Victoria and every other state and territory, and to people who live in New Zealand or further afield. Separate guides cover [Tasmania](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/full-mouth-implants-in-melbourne-for-tasmanian-patients/) and [New Zealand](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/full-mouth-implants-in-melbourne-for-new-zealand-patients/).

## What are the stages of full-arch implant treatment when I travel?

Full-arch treatment follows the same clinical stages for every patient, wherever they live:

1. Assessment, with a medical and dental review, to confirm whether implants suit you.
2. Implant surgery under general anaesthetic, which can take place in a private hospital if you hold hospital cover.
3. A fit check the day after surgery, when your specialist prosthodontist and dental prosthetist check how your new teeth sit and adjust them.
4. A healing period of three to six months.
5. Your final fixed bridge, made and secured once healing allows.
6. Ongoing maintenance and home care.

These stages all happen in Melbourne. The number and length of visits depend on your plan, and we work out the timing with you at consultation. The [stage by stage guide](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/all-on-4-for-travelling-patients-each-stage-in-melbourne/) explains each step in detail.

## How do I get started before I plan travel?

Phone us on 13 13 96, or +61 3 9650 4920 from outside Australia, to talk through your situation before you book flights. You can also write to theteam@smilesolutions.com.au. Your first appointment is a complimentary implant consultation in person with an experienced registered dentist. If you hold recent x-rays, scans or treatment notes from your own dentist, ask for copies, bring them along and mention them when you call. Our [interstate planning guide](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/planning-dental-implants-in-melbourne-from-interstate/) covers what to prepare.

## Who will treat me?

All-on-4 treatment at Smile Solutions is performed by board-registered specialist prosthodontists, periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons and dual medically qualified dental surgeons. Specialists who work on implant cases include:

- [Prof Vasileios Chronopoulos](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/prof-vasileios-chronopoulos-specialist-prosthodontist/), specialist prosthodontist (AHPRA DEN0001856272)
- [Dr Jamie Foong](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/dr-jamie-foong-specialist-prosthodontist/), specialist prosthodontist (AHPRA DEN0001022492)
- [A/Prof Patrishia Bordbar](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/a-prof-patrishia-bordbar-specialist-oral-and-maxillofacial-surgeon/), specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon (AHPRA DEN0001010517)
- [Dr Ricky Kumar](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/dr-ricky-kumar-specialist-oral-and-maxillofacial-surgeon/), specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon (AHPRA DEN0001411504)

- [Dr James van den Berg](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/dr-james-van-den-berg-specialist-periodontist/), specialist periodontist (AHPRA DEN0001016928)

You can check any practitioner's registration on the AHPRA public register.

## What does full-arch treatment cost, and how can I pay?

All-on-4 fees start from $29,000 for one arch and from $54,000 for two arches, as a guide. Because part of the procedure is carried out in hospital, the hospital fees are built into the initial quote. Your specialist discusses the cost of your own plan at consultation, and costs vary with complexity: bone grafting, for example, can add time and cost. People eligible for Medicare can claim some rebates. Fees are quoted in Australian dollars.

Payment options include Payright and TLC, plus early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds in strictly defined circumstances set by the ATO. Eligibility applies, and we do not give financial advice. Payright and TLC require Australian residency, so these plans are generally not available to people who live overseas. See our [payment plans page](https://www.smilesolutions.com.au/payment-plans/).

## How does care continue once I am home?

A dental hygienist removes the bridge and cleans the implants twice a year, and regular check-ups and careful home care keep the implants healthy. Ask at your consultation how these maintenance visits will be arranged when you live away from Melbourne. If a problem comes up, contact us, and a local dentist can provide urgent care. Read more in [aftercare when you live far away](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/implant-aftercare-when-you-live-far-from-melbourne/).

## What if I had dental work done overseas?

We assess problems with earlier dental work, including failed implants and crowns, veneers or dentures that fit poorly or have not lasted, whether the work was done in Australia or abroad. See [assessment after overseas dental work](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/assessment-after-overseas-dental-work-implants-crowns-and-veneers/).

## Where will I be treated?

Every stage takes place in the Manchester Unity Building at 220 Collins Street, with Collins Street Imaging on Level 9 and the Collins Street Specialist Centre on Level 8. Directions, hours and parking are in [visiting Smile Solutions from out of town](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/visiting-smile-solutions-from-out-of-town-address-transport-and-hours/). Patients from overseas can read [dental implants for international patients](https://directory.smilesolutions.com.au/patient-guides/dental-implants-in-melbourne-for-international-patients/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I have a full-mouth rehabilitation in Melbourne if I live in another state?

Yes. We treat patients who live outside Victoria. Assessment, surgery, the next-day fit check and the final bridge all take place in Melbourne, and we plan the timing of your visits with you at consultation.

### How long is the healing period before the final bridge?

The final fixed bridge follows a healing period of three to six months after implant surgery. Your specialist confirms the timing for your case.

### Is the first consultation free?

Yes. The complimentary implant consultation is held in person in Melbourne with an experienced registered dentist.

### Can I use a payment plan if I live in New Zealand?

Payright requires permanent residence in Australia and TLC requires Australian citizenship or permanent residency, so these plans are generally not available to people living overseas, including in New Zealand.

### How do I contact Smile Solutions from overseas?

Call +61 3 9650 4920 or email theteam@smilesolutions.com.au. Within Australia, call 13 13 96.

Results, recovery times and risks vary for each individual. Before any surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified AHPRA-registered health practitioner.
