Post 1 - Graduate mentorship program announcement

An award-winning and industry-respected graduate mentorship program is not something you stitch together in a panic during a period of unprecedented skills shortages. It is also not as simple as giving a young clinician access to the dentist in the next room who may begrudgingly have a few moments of downtime in between treating their own patients.
Smile Solutions engaged its first graduate dentist 29 years ago, and every year thereafter the tradition of our graduate program was built in to the fabric of the Smile Solutions and Core Dental clinical and business models. Many in our current team of over 120 clinicians joined us as graduates 2, 5, 10, 15, 20+ years ago. This is why numerous graduating candidates view the Smile Solutions Group as a potential "forever" destination - a place to practise their entire careers in dentistry. We welcome them and their thinking with open arms.
Across the dentistry industry, "chop and change" events in a practitioner's working career too often damage or hinder their clinical careers and, as importantly, adversely affect the continuity of care their patients receive, resulting in community-wide erosion of patient care - something more prevalent today than ever before! Not so at Smile Solutions.
Today, our renowned graduate program attracts the very best candidates. After more than 100 interviews, the successful candidates will embark on their working careers serving our communities, their colleagues and the health industry. We wish them the best in their careers and acknowledge the individual challenges they have endured to achieve this accolade. I'd also like to wish the unsuccessful candidates the very best of success and happiness in embarking on their careers.
To all recent graduates, I want to say this is a very exciting juncture in your career. Taking the time to stop and smell the roses that have bloomed from your efforts will be a cornerstone to your job satisfaction and overall happiness in the coming weeks and months.

Boomerang staff - three amazing humans return
Date: ~2023 Reactions: 72 | Comments: 5
In 2023, Smile Solutions has welcomed back three amazing humans, who have chosen to return to our work family: Monica - Dental Hygienist - 2004 to 2010 (7 years); Deanna - Reception Manager General Practice - 2004 to 2010 (7 years); Sophie - Oral Health Therapist - 2004 to 2017 (14 years)
Few things speak more clearly to a practice's culture than team members who leave and then choose to come back. Monica, Deanna, and Sophie each returned to Smile Solutions because they knew, from experience, that the warmth and clinical excellence here are genuine.
Origin story - Collins Street Specialist Centre ("primum non nocere")
Date: ~2023 Reactions: 76 | Comments: 7
I'm often asked what motivated me to build the largest specialist practice in Australia - Collins Street Specialist Centre. I grew up in England in the 1970s. At age 11, I visited the local dentist to be told I need a root canal in my upper first molar. The dentist proceeded to open and drain my inflamed vital molar tooth with no anaesthetic, whilst his assistant held me down by lying across my chest, under the instruction of the dentist - as I screamed for what seemed an eternity. The dentist perforated my tooth in three locations... My only phobia to this day is the fear of the dentist, and my greatest motivation in my professional life is - Clinical Excellence.
This personal story sits at the heart of everything Smile Solutions stands for. Dr Pajouhesh's commitment to a gentle, careful approach was forged through his own experience of what dentistry should never be. If you've ever felt anxious about visiting the dentist, you'll find that your experience here is shaped by someone who genuinely understands that feeling.
The boardroom porcelain collection
Date: ~2023 Reactions: 60 | Comments: 1
Not all the porcelain stock at Smile Solutions goes on patients' teeth as veneers! Some of our finest vintage porcelain adorns our magnificent Boardroom - considered to be the most intact inter-war period boardroom in the world. Our original art deco service sets include two bone-china sets from Limoges in France, and two sets from Shelley in Staffordshire, England. Fun facts: Our bright yellow 'Shelley Vogue' complete service is particularly rare, originally in production in 1932 and 1933. One of only a handful of complete sets in private collection is owned by Madonna who is crazy about everything Art Deco! Our Boardroom has hosted 2 Victorian State Premiers, 3 Melbourne Lord Mayors, and 2 AFL Collingwood head coaches!
The Manchester Unity Building is not merely a backdrop - it is a living part of Melbourne's cultural heritage, and Smile Solutions is its proud custodian. When you visit Level 1, 220 Collins Street, you're stepping into one of the most remarkable heritage spaces in the country.

Telstra Business Award & 1932 Café TripAdvisor success
Date: ~2023 Reactions: 49 | Comments: 12
In 2014 when Smile Solutions was judged Victorian Business of the year in the Telstra Business Awards, we attributed the win to our unique service offering... 2022 TripAdvisor Top 10 BEST RESTAURANTS in Melbourne (from 3510 restaurant listings) and TripAdvisor NUMBER 1 BEST CAFE in Melbourne (from 613 cafe listings) in the 'Culinary capital of Australia'. The conclusion: Service is transferrable - it's the quintessential universal traveller.
The same philosophy that guided Smile Solutions to multiple Telstra Business Award wins - that genuine, personalised service is the foundation of everything - is the same philosophy you'll experience from the moment you book your consultation.
41 graduate dentists still with us (26 years of graduates)
Date: ~2024 Reactions: 63 | Comments: 2
Currently within the Smile Solutions Group (encompassing Smile Solutions and Core Dental), there are 41 general dentists that started their careers in dentistry within our group as recently graduated dentists. They expand across a graduating range of 26 years - from 1998 to 2023 inclusive... our patient base from 8 patients in 1995, to over 350,000 today.
When 41 dentists choose to build their entire careers at one practice - spanning 26 graduating years - that tells you something real about the culture and clinical environment at Smile Solutions. And when a patient base grows from 8 to over 350,000, it tells you something equally real about the trust Melbourne has placed in Dr Pajouhesh and his team.

The Age - porcelain veneers feature
Date: ~2023 Reactions: 56 | Comments: 5 | Reposts: 4
It was a delight to be interviewed by Nell Geraets, journalist for The Age who has written a very informative and balanced article on the rise in popularity of porcelain veneers in Australia. Special thanks to Peter Mitchell and Ellie George, Smile Solutions patients who shared their smile makeover stories.
If you've been considering porcelain veneers and want to understand what the process genuinely involves - from an evidence-based, patient-centred perspective - a personalised consultation at Smile Solutions is a good place to start.
